Artist, educator, author, and publisher, Victoria Lansford creates one-of-a-kind wearable pieces of art and art objects that evoke the mystery and splendor of ancient masters, yet are infused with her own provocative vision. She has pushed the boundaries of design and execution in many old world techniques, including high relief Eastern repoussé, Russian filigree, chain making, and granulation in over two decades of comprehensive exploration of metal as art.
Victoria's award winning work has appeared in numerous juried and curated shows, including most recently Metal Inclinations 2, the Society of Midwest Metalsmiths, CraftForms 2010 and 2009, Wayne, PA, National Art Encounter, Naples, FL, CONTAIN - Vessels and the Art of Containment, Luke & Eloy Gallery, Pittsburgh, eXtreme Tea, Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, Putting the Band Back Together, the Georgia Museum, Framing the Art of Jewelry, Museum of Contemporary Craft, Portland, OR, and Exploring Boundaries: Evolutionary Metal, Rochester Institute of Technology, NY. Her artwork has also been featured in many books and magazines such as Metalsmith magazine’s 2007 Exhibition in Print, multiple issues of Lapidary Journal: Jewelry Artist magazine, Art Jewelry magazine, Chasing & Repoussé by Nancy Megan Corwin, The Jeweler’s Studio Handbook, by Brandon Holschuh, and on Home & Garden Television’s 2007 season of That’s Clever.
Her own instructional publications in the series, Metal Techniques of Bronze Age Masters, including Russian Filigree (DVD, 2006),Rings (DVD, 2008),All Chained Up (paperback, 2008), and Eastern Repoussé and Chasing (DVD, 2009) and her application, iMakeJewelry for the Apple iPhone™ have sold throughout Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, and North and South America. A long time educator in the arts, she is committed to sustaining ancient techniques by passing on her knowledge to other artists. She served as head of the Jewelry and Metalsmithing Department at Spruill Center for the Arts in Atlanta from 1997 to 2004, creating its comprehensive program, and was an adjunct professor at the University of Tennessee. She continues to teach workshops, which have been hosted by the Metal Arts Society of Southern California, Society for Midwest Metalsmiths, Arizona Designer Craftsmen, Florida Society of Goldsmiths, and the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen, to name but a few.
Victoria earned her Bachelor of Arts in jewelry design and silversmithing at Georgia State University in 1993 where she studied with Richard Mafong and Gia Gogishvilli. Her artwork is in private collections around the world and is available in art galleries around the United States and through this website. She creates and lives in Atlanta, Georgia.
