Drusy
Ring Workshop
Spruill
Center for the Arts Atlanta, GA
Saturday,
August 7, 2010
10:30am-6:00pm
The
desire to encircle the fingers with symbols
of loyalty, wealth, and power is an ancient
tradition dating back thousands of years.
Rings are the most personal and most coveted
of adornments.
In this one-day intensive, make a "drusy
ring". Drusies and other fragile stones
can be challenging to use in rings, but
Victoria has developed a style of ring that
both protects the stone and shows off its
glistening facets. Victoria's internationally
acclaimed DVD, Rings, has sold all over
the world. This is a special opportunity
to make one of the projects with her in
person. Students must have beginning jewelry
skills and know how to solder with a torch.
Supply
List
Please do not wait
until the week before class to get your
supplies!!!
Metals & Stones
I recommend getting the gold from David
H. Fell in CA. Their alloy (Yellow gold
standard) is zinc free and much easier to
work with. Sterling is also fine (no pun
intended).
20 gauge sterling sheet, 2" x 3"
24 gauge sterling sheet, 1 x 2
18 gauge sterling OR 18k "yellow gold
standard" round wire, 4"
Easy, medium, and hard silver wire solder
(Sheet solder will work, but wire solder
will allow you to stick solder.) We will
use silver solder even if you are working
with the gold wire.
Drusy or other thick stone
that can be in a recessed setting (up to
25mm long)
Bill Gangi has a nice selection of drusies.
