| | Artist Statement Working with metal is magic. With a torch or hammer in my hand I become part artist, part alchemist, and part shaman, in a centuries old ritual of turning raw materials into precious objects, each with a pre-ordained purpose. I listen to the metal as I work it, always coaxing it to move just a little more, ever captivated by its apparent hardness and secret flexibility. Exploring new ways to encompass old world techniques allows me to remain process driven while evolving work that looks as if it might have just been dug out of the earth. Through my studio windows I watch the lace of leaves against blue skies in the urban forest that is home. Their play of negative and positive shapes, form and space, earth and sky are echoed in the shapes of my work, and their infinite cyclical nature embodied in the spirals I create. When worn or beheld, my pieces become collaborative works, engaging and inviting the viewer into deeper reflection of the magic around us and the beauty within us.
